Union bosses have been unambiguous and very clear that they expect “payback” from the Obama Administration for their political contributions. And that appears to be unfolding currently in the U.S. Senate. Multiple reports show labor bosses on Capitol Hill demanding that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid exert the so-called “nuclear option”
For those unaware, the nuclear option refers to a major change in Senate rules when the majority can strip the minority of its ability to effectively oppose presidential nominees. The minority in the Senate has valiantly called into question President Obama’s “recess” appointments to the National Labor Relations Board using legitimate Senate rules at their disposal to stop these unconstitutional nominees.
The Hill reports: “The nuclear option strategy is gaining momentum in the Senate in part because of growing pressure from organized labor, which wants Reid to break the impasse over the NLRB. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka … will call for rules changes at the Center for American Progress, a Democratic think tank, Wednesday morning.”
“Liberal groups and labor unions are putting intense pressure on Reid to change the rules because, they said, Republicans are blocking Obama’s nominees to the National Labor Relations Board,” writes The Washington Examiner.
The problem with this change is that it will, literally, change the rules in the middle of the game for the sole purpose of rewarding a political benefactor. It would have far reaching and very negative consequences not only for Washington, but for America’s workers and businesses.
